Editorial policy

How the reviews are produced

Ortivana is an independent editorial publication covering resort hotels and entertainment destinations across the Nordic and Baltic capitals. We assess properties, publish scores, and explain the reasoning; we do not sell rooms, take commission on bookings, or accept payment for placement.

Independence is structural rather than declared. No property in this catalogue has paid to appear, none has been given sight of its review before publication, and none can have a criticism removed.

How we work
Editorial inspection at a resort in Tallinn, Riga, and Copenhagen
The same six questions are asked at every property in this catalogue.
Availability

Ask about rooms and dates

Complete the fields below to have your enquiry routed to the property directly.

We take no payment and hold no rooms; the property confirms availability and any booking terms itself.

Assessment method

How we score every property

Six categories carry fixed weights in our scoring model. Applying the same weights everywhere is what makes one property's score meaningful against another's.

25%Major impact

Casino floors and lounges

We look at circulation, seating, table spread, ventilation, and the atmosphere during peak evening periods.

20%High impact

Accommodation quality

We check noise transfer between rooms, bed and bath quality, room technology, and housekeeping reliability.

20%High impact

Guest service

Arrival efficiency, staff knowledge, multilingual capability, and how the property responds to a problem.

15%Moderate impact

Restaurants and bars

Range across price points, kitchen consistency, breakfast quality, in-room dining hours, and wine list depth.

10%Supporting impact

Location and access

Distance to the airport, walkability, transit links, parking provision, and what surrounds the property.

10%Supporting impact

Value for money

Total cost including resort fees and parking, measured against what the property actually delivers.

Districts

Districts and destinations

The Baltic capitals developed their gaming rooms inside international hotels rather than as standalone resorts, which makes the hotel product itself the deciding factor across this entire region.

Before you write

The questions we get most

Do you cover properties outside this region?

Our scope here is the Nordic and Baltic capitals. Listings appear only after a complete six-criterion assessment, which is why the catalogue grows slowly.

How should I read the ratings?

Scores rank properties against each other within the Nordic and Baltic capitals. A lower number often signals a different purpose, not a worse stay.

Can I book through this site?

No — Ortivana is a review publication. Availability requests are forwarded to the hotel, and all booking terms are agreed directly with that property.

Is placement sponsored?

No property pays for its position. Scores come from the published rubric, and a resort cannot buy a higher placement or remove a criticism.

How current are the rates shown?

The figures shown are entry-level guides captured when we assessed the property. Live pricing changes daily and should be verified at the source.

Is there an age restriction?

Our material is for adult readers exclusively. Visitors must meet the age of majority where they live, which is 21 in several of the markets we cover.
